Residence is guaranteed for students coming to Western for their first year from high school, but you must secure your spot by paying your fees on time. There are a variety of payment methods available to you, as well as flexible payment plans to meet your needs.

Residence Prepayment

To secure your spot in Residence, all students are required to pay a Residence prepayment of $900. The deadlines differ for incoming first-year and upper-year students. Upper-year students apply for Residence on a first-come, first-served basis so the prepayment deadline depends on when the application is submitted.

Payment Plans

PLAN 1: Pay your residence fees in full by August 1, 2017

Your total amount owing can be found by visiting myHousing and viewing your Statement of Account after you have been notified of your building assignment (mid-July).

PLAN 2: Pay your residence fees in two instalments (as per assigned residence accommodation)

ASSIGNED RESIDENCE (with meal plan)

  • Alumni House, Delaware Hall, Medway-Sydenham Hall, Elgin Hall, Perth Hall, Saugeen-Maitland Hall, Essex Hall, London Hall, Ontario Hall
  • $7,000 will be paid on or before August 1, 2017 and the balance will be paid by January 16, 2018.

ASSIGNED RESIDENCE (without meal plan)

  • Alumni House, London Hall
  • $4,000 will be paid on or before August 1, 2017 and the balance will be paid by January 16, 2018.

PLAN 3: OSAP or other student loan recipients*

Your OSAP is usually released in two instalments. Your first instalment of OSAP (approximately 60% of your total entitlement) will be released in early September. Pay your residence fees in two instalments, with the first instalment split into two payments (as per residence accommodation below).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are unable to pay because your loan has not arrived or for other financial reasons, you are still expected to submit the full first instalment by August 1, 2017.

ASSIGNED RESIDENCE (with meal plan option)

  • Alumni House, Delaware Hall, Medway-Sydenham Hall, Elgin Hall, Perth Hall, Saugeen-Maitland Hall, Essex Hall, London Hall, Ontario Hall
  • The first instalment of $7,000 will be paid in two payments and will be submitted to arrive in the Residence Admissions Office no later than August 1, 2017.
    • $4,000 - To be paid on or before August 1, 2017
    • $3,000 - To be paid on or before September 29, 2017. If paying online (our preferred payment method), you can schedule the payment for September 29, 2017 or submit a post-dated cheque dated September 29, 2017. If paying by post-dated cheque, the post-dated cheque should be on file in the Residence Admissions Office on or before August 1, 2017.
    • The remaining balance will be paid by January 16, 2018

ASSIGNED RESIDENCE (without meal plan option)

  • Alumni House, London Hall (exclusively upper year buildings)
  • The first instalment of $4,000 will be paid in two payments and will be submitted to arrive in the Residence Admissions Office no later than August 1, 2017.
    • $2,500 - To be paid on or before August 1, 2017
    • $1,500 - To be paid on or before September 29, 2017. If paying online (our preferred payment method), you can schedule the payment for September 29, 2017 or submit a post-dated cheque dated September 29, 2017. If paying by post-dated cheque, the post-dated cheque should be on file in the Residence Admissions Office on or before August 1, 2017.
    • The remaining balance will be paid by January 16, 2018

*You may be asked to provide additional information (e.g., student loan, educational savings plan, or external scholarship documents) in order to choose these options.

PLAN 4: None of the above apply

If you cannot comply with any of the above payment plans due to extenuating circumstances, please prepare and submit the following to the Housing Office (in person: Room 3C10 Ontario Hall Residence, by phone: 519-661-3547, or by email at housing@uwo.ca) before July 25, 2017, to discuss a suitable payment arrangement:

A reasonable payment plan, and information about income and expenses, including but not limited to:

  • Total Income
    OSAP/Student Loans, Other Loans, Family Assistance, Summer Employment or other personal savings, Scholarships, Bursaries
  • Total Expenses
    Tuition, Residence Fees, Books - (Financial Aid suggests to budget about $1,000), Computer if you have not already purchased one, Travel, Personal Items, etc.

Payment Methods

The following residence fee payment methods are available:

PLEASE NOTE: Residence fees are payable at financial institutions with whom UWO - Housing is registered as an available payee. This includes most major banks. You MUST ask the teller to initiate the electronic payment and choose Housing as the recipient of the payment. If you do not specify Housing as the beneficiary when paying electronically at the bank, there may be a significant delay in assigning the payment to your account. The delay could jeopardize your guaranteed accommodation if you do not meet the specified deadline date. Credit card payments will not be accepted.

Online Banking

Online banking payments can be made through most major Canadian banks. If you already use your bank's web services, simply link to your bank's website, log in and add University of Western Ontario - HOUSING as a payee*. If you do not currently use online banking, please speak with a representative at your bank about registering for this service. Payments over the web sometimes take two to three business days to be received by our office.

If you are sending your payment by mail (i.e. personal cheque, money order, etc.) please print and complete the payment by mail form and enclose it with your payment to ensure that the funds are applied to the proper account.
