As a Community Leader, I learned that student needs do not stop after first year; they merely evolve into a different theme. While first-year students need help transitioning into university, upper-year students need help developing their academic and career plans. Also, the need to feel like belonging to a community does not stop after first year. In order to meet all these evolving needs and more, the Community Leader role is critical for the residence community. Personally, I enjoyed the challenge of adapting to providing for different needs and the opportunity to meet a large number of exchange students who were an integral part of the community. Furthermore, bridging the age gap by working in an upper-year building made the role more rewarding.
